Time and again, Yggdrasil has outdone themselves through releasing all kinds of ground-breaking casino slots. In their latest instalment, Age of Asgard has proven to be a game with uniqueness and is generally well-received by the gambling community. When loading up the game, the first thing you’re greeted to in Age of Asgard is the dual reel setup. This is called the Dual Machine and is one of the unique features.

At the top of that is a five by three grid. Each slot has a female warrior that you don’t want to mess with. But there is also another grid directly below that. This one depicts a wide range of monsters.
I’m sure you can see where this is going, right?
It’s the classic scenario: the forces of good versus the forces of evil. When the two sides clash, you are rewarded with wilds and re-spins. All you got to do is place your bet between 0.30 and 300 CDN and spinning.
Looking further into this game, there may not be much excitement about it. There is mid-level volatility and the top prize is smaller than most other slots. Even the RTP rating can be disheartening at 96.3%.
On the surface, Age of Asgard is not a really exciting game. The key though is to look deeper because this game is quite deceptive.
Features of Age of Asgard
The specific features that Age of Asgard offers are where the game really shines. Right out the door, a good chunk of the slots will give you extras. These help you build up quickly to various rewards - usually free spins that lead to multipliers. This feature is nothing new though, however, Age of Asgard makes it work so well with the overall unique display. To see that in action consider the wilds in it. In the base game, the two grids have their own wild, golden warrior and golden beast.
What does that mean?
Well, the golden warrior and beast are special. Firstly they are 1 by 3 tiles in size. The second thing is if they don’t cover the grid, they’ll get nudged so they’re locked in place. But that’s only the start.
When they cover a reel, they’ll lock in place and give you a re-spin. If both of the grids are full of wilds on opposite sides they’ll clash. This clash will cause a number of 1 by 1 tiles to scatter the grid. Best of all when one of those small wilds lands on a high pay symbol, that entire symbol will turn wild. Another feature is the scatter lands. When three of them land on either the top or bottom grid, that area will merge to create a super grid. This also gives you 10 free spins.
But what’s amazing about this feature is if three scatters land on both sides simultaneously, it’ll trigger Ragnarok Spins. In this mode three things happen:
- You get 20 free spins.
- All the grids merge and are all high paying symbols.
- All wilds always nudge.
The final feature touches on the scatter lands as well in a unique way. A Randomizer begins when the scatter lands are split one to two on either side.
What the Randomizer does is of course random. Here is what you can get from it:
- 10 free spins.
- A money reward of 50 times whatever you staked.
- You go into Ragnarok free spin mode.
Pros
It can be slow at first but picks up through free spins and the merging features. The extra features really make the game shine once you get into a good cycle.
Cons
The lacklustre top prize and the RTP can discourage players from trying Age of Asgard.
