This isn’t the developer’s first attempt at an ancient Egypt-themed game, as Ghost of Dead follows on the heels of Book of Ra and Book of Dead. Aside from a historic take on Egypt there is also a ghostly and eerie air about the game. The game seems to take place in a tomb. Whose tomb? It’s Unas, a Pharaoh that has been given the gift of life once again and is ready to bestow his riches on a worthy human.
Could you be that human? You’ll have to play and see. The game has a large grid decorated with metallic blue and gold stripes separating each reel. In the background we see a dimly lit spooky tomb where cobwebs have made themselves at home.
The theme is inviting, especially for those who like a scarier design. The specs, on the other hand, aren’t as appealing. You have a rather basic playing grid size with 5x3 reels and 10 paylines. It all seems pretty average in Ghost of Dead until we get to the RTP (return to player). Like many of Play’n GO’s other masterpieces, the RTP is variable, with the highest at 96.21%.
Unfortunately, all other RTP percentages only get lower and lower at 94.21%, 91.21%, 87.22% and a very, very discouraging 84.22%.

At least the max win is worth it, right? At 10,000x your initial bet, it really isn’t bad. But the max win probably is so incredibly low and the volatility of Ghost of Dead is so high (9/10 on the volatility scale), that it really makes players question their chances of winning Unas’ treasure.
In the Ghost of Dead base game, there is a random feature by the name of Ghost Spin. They will select an accidental symbol to make it an expanding icon. If said symbol lands when the Ghost Spin is triggered, then the symbol expands to fill the grid and pays out immediately.
The one special symbol functions as the scatter and the wild. In the case of Ghost of Dead, it is the likeness of Canopus. The features it delivers are quite basic. As a wild, Canopus can swap out other symbols, and as a scatter it can award you with 10 free spins if you land at least 3. If you get 3, 4, or 5 more during the free spins, you add multipliers to your bet.
The next feature in Ghost of Dead gives players the chance to choose an icon to take on the expanding feature. It will act the same way as the random symbol would in the base game. Like before, the free spins can be retriggered as long as you keep landing the Canopus.

During the free spins, there is a chance that the scatters will become glowy and ghostly, which will give you 10 special free spins. Participants should pick up a feature if they want to turn it to the paying one. In this case, the game will choose the second symbol by a chance and it will be the expanding icon.
This feature can also reactivate as long as you keep landing the glowy scatters. You may also get a crack at a special feature in Ghost of Dead, which is the gamble feature. You will see cards facedown and your job is to guess the color of the suit correctly to get 2x or 4x the prize.
You can see that just from the features alone, Ghost of Dead is quite impressive and a lot of thought and work has gone into its conception. It seems like there is a new feature to trigger no matter what you do, which gives players some real excitement. We do with that the specs were more in favor of the players, but that’s part of the fun.
