Hat Trick Hero is another recent release from veteran gaming studio and platform Betsoft, this time with a soccer theme. This ode to football - aka soccer - was released in May 2021, just in time for the soccer season in Europe. Hat Trick Hero offers some unique special features, and, as players have come to expect with Betsoft, the graphics and details are good-looking.
A hat trick is a soccer term for scoring three goals during a game, and this plays out in Hat Trick Hero when players land three Power Shot Wilds. It’s a terrific idea for a theme that translates well to slots.
Hat Trick Hero is set, where else, but on a soccer pitch in a stadium. The colours are bright, and the graphics are clean and modern-looking. The sounds, unfortunately, are terrible. The music is a bizarre but upbeat techno-pop, and the spins and wins make horrendous noises. Most players will likely turn the sounds off. It’s also strange that Betsoft didn’t include cheering or chanting with wins or critical spins, as this would add a great deal to the atmosphere and feel of the game.
The high pay symbols for slo are the soccer jersey, goalie gloves, the referee’s whistle and stopwatch, a golden soccer cleat trophy, a golden soccer ball trophy, and the highest pay symbol - the trophy cup. Low pay symbols are the royals ten through Ace.
Special symbols are the Power Shot Wilds - represented by an image of a player taking a shot and the resulting soccer ball that appears to be flying towards the goal. It’s a great effect.
Power Shot Wilds replace any other symbol and also act as the game’s scatter symbol.
When players land three Power Shot Wilds, they obtain the Hat Trick Hero event, where speeding soccer balls replace the kicking player as the Wilds and become Walking Wilds. That is to say; they begin moving to the left of the game grid - where the goal is - by one reel per spin. The spins continue until the last ball has left the game grid. All spins during the slot event are free spins.

The Score Meter keeps track of the Power Shot Wilds as they exit the game grid. It takes 15 Power Shot Wilds to fill the Score Meter, which awards players a cool 1,000x the stake win.
Hat Trick Hero might be a bit of a disappointment for fans of Betsoft. While the game is pleasing enough visually and certainly doesn’t look outdated, there’s a sense that they could have done so much more with this theme to make it more exciting and immersive.
The game grid is static, and there are opportunities for better sounds - such as crowds cheering or an announcer yelling “goal!” - as well as animations - such as moving fans in the stands or showing the soccer ball score - that were missed.

The features of the Hat Trick hero are not bad at all, and the Walking Wilds in the Hat Trick Hero event are a fun and exciting bonus. The Score Meter additionally adds to the excitement with this event, as the possibility of winning 1,000x the stake increases with each “goal.”
Hat Trick Hero is not a bad way to spend some time for die-hard soccer fans, but there are undeniably more exciting and immersive games out there, and players looking for that experience should search elsewhere.
