Temple of Medusa is very clearly set in the Gorgon’s lair, complete with the eerie green colour and snakes very fitting to the theme. We are left with much to our imagination since the grid takes up most of the screen with a mysterious fog with an emerald tinge concealing what’s deep in the temple.
Perhaps that’s a good thing, as the last thing we want is Medusa bursting out, fixing her stony stare and paralyzing players with their fingers in the air. We always like a good mythology theme, but we do wish Microgaming was more daring with the design and incorporated more face time with the famous snake-haired villainess.
Temple of Medusa starts off on the right foot with a high RTP rating (return to player) of 96.40%. That’s almost half a percent higher than average, which promises good returns. The hit frequency also further fosters your winning chances at 31.10%. The max win is 5,000x your original stake, which is much more than some other slot games offer.

Temple of Medusa has a playing grid of 5×3 reels and offers 25 paylines. Normally, we wouldn’t expect much with these numbers, but so far, so good. The minimum bet starts at 0.10 and goes up to 100. To get the max win, you have to bet the highest possible bet for the biggest payout.
All seems good, which leads us to an undesirable but understandable volatility rating that sits high on the scale.
Medusa herself is the wild symbol in Temple of Medusa, and she can either pay out 25x your stake or become a symbol substitute that can swap out any symbols to add to your winning combos.
Not only can she replace, but Medusa can also expand and take over the surrounding spaces. The wild cannot only do it vertically and horizontally, but it applies diagonally as well.
Like most other slot games, Temple of Medusa has the same scatter symbol activating the free spins, which are in the form of an ancient shield. You have options with the free spins. You can either pick 5 free spins with wilds that expand in three 3 directions, 10 free spins but only 2 directions or 15 free spins with expanding wilds going only one way.
You also have the choice of going for the mystery choice that will mix up those numbers. You could potentially end up with 3 directions and a high number of free spins, but it’s less likely.

Lastly, we have the random Lucky Prize in Temple of Medusa, which is completely dependent on your luck. It can appear at any time in the game and offer 1,000x your stake.
To sum up, Temple of Medusa, in one word, it would have to be mid-range. While the specs of the game, such as the RTP and max win, are pretty intriguing, the volatility does make players think twice. However, with high-paying games comes high volatility; that’s just the way it is. All the fun would get sucked out of slots if the wins came easily.
The game didn’t stand out, but it wasn’t bad. We do wish that the developers went a bit further with the theme design as much could have been done with the Temple of Medusa.
