The Book of Darkness slot game hints at a Halloween-type theme, but it actually is one with elves, potions, and fantastical creatures in a mystical land. What’s really cool about the Book of Darkness is that it adds an interactive element. You get to pick your fighter before you embark on this journey.
Choose from warriors, elves, and mages; you’re on your way to seek out all the hidden secrets of the legendary Book of Darkness. It does sound like the adventure of a lifetime, and we can’t wait to get started!
Even the symbols graphics are very well done and enough to get players to stop and take a look. The emerald grid is suspended on what appears to be an ancient cavern temple embellished with quartz rocks and pillars. Do the details of the game live up to the graphics? Let’s find out.
Book of Darkness features a very standard 5×3 grid with only 10 active paylines. It isn’t a lot, but the RTP (return to player of 96.48%) is quite unbelievable. It’s nearly a whole half percent higher than other games, which is pretty promising thus far.
The betting range is only 0.1 - 40, which already hints at a low jackpot. How low? To be honest, we were pretty disappointed when we saw the number ourselves. The max payout of Book of Darkness is a measly 640x your initial bet. But before you turn away, think about the high RTP and the number of chances you will get at earning subsequent jackpots.

The high volatility does put a wrench in those plans a bit, but you never know what you could reap from this game with such a high RTP, so there is nothing left to do but to check it out.
Sadly, the Book of Darkness isn’t packed with features as we had hoped. It focuses a lot on the wild symbol, which is the Book of Darkness itself. As with most slot games, the wild is a symbol that can replace all others except the mage and the huntress elf, but only when it’s necessary.
Then you have the Clash for Power feature, which pits your fighter against another if you manage to land 1 to 2 combos in a straight line. If your character makes you proud and manages to win the Clash for Power, your prizes are 20 free spins and either a multiplier or 10 more rounds, depending on the character you chose.
You may not be too excited after reading our review of the Book of Darkness. While it may be a fun time and visual treat, you can’t bank on earning high wins. The 640x jackpot is among the lowest we’ve seen, and it honestly doesn’t motivate people to give it a try. Its one redeeming quality will have to be its RTP.

The RTP is almost a full half point higher than other games, which may end up giving players many opportunities at the max jackpot. It’s hard to trigger the Clash for Power, which is another deterrent for the game. But what does keep things interesting is the hit rate and, of course, the cool concept and visuals. But those things alone may not be enough to retain a player’s interest.
